HOW EASY IS IT TO INSTALL CAPSULES?
Overall the capsules are great and I am glad I purchased them. IMO, they look much nicer than the other brand's bubble-style capsules.
However, some small annoyances:
1. There were a few small craters/holes in the surface of the capsules, about the size of a pea, where there were inconsistencies in the fiberglass casting process. These holes didn't go all the way through, but they were large enough that I worried about water getting into them and freezing and causing bigger problems so I had to fill them with body filler before painting. I feel like this should have been caught during the production process.
2. Why not include the primer? This stuff is hard to find and takes a week+ to deliver from stores online. My Vantek windows came with tubes of the Dow 5504 betabrime, why don't you guys throw this in with the kit? They're like $9 per tube. This was the biggest pain.
3. The little black screws for the window compression flange suck. I was extremely careful during installation, making sure everything was perfectly aligned, hand tightening them by hand with a regular screw driver, and still three of the heads snapped off. I think overall the design of the window flange fastening system should be improved.
Mounted the capsules on my transit xl and they worked perfectly. Of all the items I have done so far on my van build, this one made me the most nervous (cutting big holes in the side). It was actually the easiest part of the build so far. I Raptor lined them and just followed there Youtube video on how to install. If you are nervous, don't be.
Overall the capsules worked out great! Arrived in perfect condition and installation was relatively easy. One of the capsules doesn't follow through contour of the van perfectly, but close enough for the adhesive to make the seal. Though expensive, it appears to be the best option on the market. Definitely recommend 2 people for the install process if possible, even if you are a confident individual 😉
Easy to install and well made. The only thing we wonder is why the reveals don't match the van contours a little better, but it's not problematic.
